DÁVGI CO-CREATE Reflection workshop: building a network for sustainable research relationships

24.02.2023 - 01.03.2023
Start time:

At the end of February, the research project DÁVGI: Co-creation for biocultural diversity in the Arctic will hold the second instance of a workshop series aimed to further establish and strengthen a network consisting of Indigenous and non-Indigenous partners. The workshop will take place in Vienna, Austria, in connection with the Arctic Science Summit Week conference. DÁVGI aims to provide a basis for the exchange of knowledge and expertise to improve collaboration between Indigenous rights holders, environmental and other non-governmental organizations, local stakeholders, researchers, and policymakers, in order to strengthen the conservation and restoration of biocultural diversity in the Arctic. Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, this project is a combined effort of the Saami Council, Ecologic Institute, and IASS, and is carried out together with partners from across the Arctic.

The workshop in Vienna brings together partners from across the Arctic and Europe (e.g., Saami Council, University of Alaska Fairbanks, Ecologic Institute, Ikaarvik, Oulu University, IASS, University of Tromsø) for an in-person exchange, and aims to create the time and space to co-reflect on ways of working together, shared goals and premises, and how to communicate this work to potential other collaborators. The process of co-designing a website will be central to this workshop series, and can be understood as a tool and method to ‘think with’ to exchange perspectives, opinions and thoughts within the network.
